Nebraska cornerback Andrew Marshall was one of five defenders added to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list. The award, presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football, recognizes Marshall’s continued strong play as a key piece of the Huskers’ defense.
The selection adds to a recent stretch of midseason recognition for the senior. Last week, Marshall earned first-team midseason All-American honors from both On3 and Sports Illustrated.
Marshall, a 6-foot, 195-pound senior from Eastvale, California, has helped anchor a Nebraska defense that ranks among the nation’s top 20 units in several categories heading into Saturday’s game against Washington. The Blackshirts sit ninth nationally in total defense, 14th in turnover margin, and 14th in scoring defense.
Through seven games, Marshall has started every contest and recorded 21 tackles, four pass breakups, and one interception. According to Pro Football Focus, he has allowed just eight receptions on 27 targets. Despite limited targets, he has posted four or more tackles on three occasions this season, including each of the past two weeks. He currently ranks as the nation’s top cornerback in the Pro Football Network Impact Rankings.
Marshall has started all 20 games since joining the program before the 2025 season. As a junior, he earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten honors after totaling 45 tackles, four pass breakups, and one interception.
