Nebraska volleyball went to Ann Arbor with history on the table and a full house waiting. The Huskers dropped the opener, and then they went and took the record anyway.

No. 1 Nebraska beat Michigan 26 to 28, 25 to 20, 25 to 20, 25 to 14 Friday night at Crisler Center. The win moves the Huskers to 22 and 0 and 11 and 0 in the Big Ten, and it is their 53rd straight regular season win, breaking the program mark of 52 set in 2004 and 2005. Michigan falls to 13 and 9, 4 and 7 in the Big Ten.

Losing a set to find a gear

The crowd was 12,707, a sellout and only the second ever for volleyball at Crisler. It tied the building record set the last time Nebraska came to town in 2025.

Michigan fed off it. The Wolverines hit .465 in the first set, led 23 to 19 and had Nebraska down 24 to 20. The Huskers fought off six set points, including four in a row to tie it at 24, before Michigan finally closed it 28 to 26. The set had 10 ties by itself.

That was the last time Michigan looked comfortable. Nebraska held the Wolverines to .261, .171 and .214 over the final three sets.

Five hitters, one problem for Michigan

Nebraska hit .412 for the match, its fourth time over .400 this season, and won the kill battle 68 to 56. Five Huskers finished with double digit kills, the 12th time that has happened in the rally scoring era and the first since 2021.

Harper Murray led the way with 16 kills in her hometown, her 22nd career match with 15 or more. Virginia Adriano set a career high with 14 kills on .500 hitting and has 48 kills on .434 over her last four matches.

Andi Jackson had 13 kills on .455 and crossed 1,000 career kills, the 13th Husker to do it in the rally scoring era. She joins Sarah Pavan, Lauren Stivrins and Melissa Elmer as the only Huskers in that era with 1,000 kills and 400 blocks.

Teraya Sigler put up 12 kills and 12 digs for the second double double of her career, with three blocks. Manaia Ogbechie added 11 kills on .500, a team high four blocks and the match winner.

Bergen Reilly handed out 58 assists with nine digs and two aces, her ninth career 50 assist match. Olivia Mauch led the floor with 13 digs and Laney Choboy chipped in seven.

Five Huskers in double figures. Michigan could not key on anybody.

Michigan's best answer was Ella Demetrician, who finished with 21 kills and 13 digs. Cymarah Gordon added 16 kills.

How it flipped

Reilly opened the second set gap with back to back aces for a 10 to 6 lead, Murray followed with three straight kills, and Nebraska never trailed in the set.

The third was where the match turned. Michigan led 10 to 7 until Sigler went back to serve and Nebraska ran off five straight. Then from 14 all, Sigler was part of five straight Husker points with three kills and two blocks alongside Ogbechie to push it to 20 to 16.

The fourth was all Nebraska. Mauch served a 4 to 0 start, Jackson served four straight with an ace for 13 to 6, Choboy's ace made it 18 to 10, and Ogbechie put it away. Gabby DiVita, a Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. native, even got on the board with a kill off the bench.

The numbers

Nebraska led in kills (68 to 56), digs (51 to 48), aces (4 to 3) and blocks (6 to 5). The match had 17 ties and three lead changes.

The road and neutral win streak is now 24 straight, tied for 11th in NCAA history and the longest in the country since Nebraska's own 24 in 2015 and 2016.
