Nebraska came into the bye week at just the right time after getting banged up at Oregon. The two weeks off allows multiple players a chance to recover from sprains, bumps and bruises.

But Nebraska was more than a little banged up, losing running back Vincent Genatone for the season with a torn pectoral muscle. A senior, Oregon will be Genatone’s last game as a Husker.

Another big loss is defensive end Anthony Jones Jr. who had surgery on a broken bone in his foot. The surgery will sideline him until late in the season, with the hope he can be back for a bowl game of perhaps the CFP if all goes well.

Offensive lineman Gunnar Gottula went out of the Oregon game with a concussion and as of now is out for the Washington game. He’s a big piece of the Husker’s six-man rotation on the O-Line. Possible fill-ins include Tyler Knaack and Gibson Pyle.

Freshman running back Jamal Rule has been suffering from a high ankle sprain since the Michigan State game and has been in and out of the line up since. It’s expected he’ll be full go for the Blackout game against Washington. But high ankle sprains can be tricky, and it doesn’t take a lot to irritate them.

Players who aren’t expected to miss any time but are healing up from minor bumps and bruises are running backs Mekhi Nelson and Isaiah Mozee, both had lower leg injuries. Quarterback Anthony Colandrea has been Nebraska’s leading rusher in the last three games and has taken a beating from the rigors of playing in the Big Ten. He just needed some recovery time to recoup.

The Nebraska depth chart continues to list several “ORs”. We gained back one “OR” on the offensive line and two on the defensive line.  The rest stayed the same.

This is the first season for new injury reporting rules for the Big Ten. The conference requires each team to report injuries each of the three days before the game as well as on gamed day – two hours before kickoff. Players will be designated in one of four manners, “out,” “doubtful,” “questionable,” or “probable.”

This is the second report of the week, so there will be another report before game time, meaning the players listed are subject to change.
