The last two articles I posted were about Super Conferences and Texas Tech, trying to cover hot topics until recruiting news came out. Well, there was news today and it’s time to get back to Nebraska Cornhuskers football.
Matt Rhule and his staff landed another big recruit today with a commitment from Nehemiah Ombati, the number one ranked player in Minnesota. The 6’3”, 275 pound 4-Star becomes the 16th commitment and the 8th blue-chip recruit in the 2027 class. He’s also the highest ranked of the three defensive linemen taken in this cycle. Ombati had over 15 Division I offers before narrowing it down to Missouri and Nebraska.
He’ll join 6’4”, 285-pound 3-Star Jayden Tavers and 6’3”, 270-pound 3-Star Errol Demontagnac as interior defensive linemen in the 2027 class. Defensive line coach Corey Brown can not be given enough credit for landing the three talented big men. Nebraska has struggled to add top talent and fire-plug bodies on the defensive line since Rhule arrived in Lincoln. Brown has done that.
Anyone that pays attention to Nebraska football, including fans, will tell you the Huskers have struggled in the trenches. This cycle Rhule and his staff made the offensive and defensive lines a priority, and thus far it has paid off in a big way, with 8 targets already committed and 3 more to visit this weekend. Nebraska has a chance of putting together one of their best groups of linemen in years. Looking at the scales, thus far they’ve added 1,165-pounds on the offensive line and 1,075-pounds on the defensive line.

Wide Receiver Outlook
After Kaden Howard flipped to Georgia Tech it left Nebraska with one wide receiver commit in the 2027 class, 5’11”, 190-pound Tay Ellis. Matthew Gregory, a 4-Star from Pottstown, PA visited last weekend and the Huskers are still in hopes he’ll become a Husker.
As of now, it appears the Huskers missed out on wide receivers Kalil Taylor and Isiah Alverez, as both have canceled their official visits. Taylor appears to be headed to Penn State, Alverez is looking to stay closer to home, since he’s from New Jersey, it’s expected he’ll land at Rutgers or Penn State.
With Taylor and Alverez not visiting, Nebraska added Justyn Lindsay to their visit schedule. Lindsay has visited Nebraska 6 times and is holding an offer from Iowa. It’s unclear where Nebraska goes from here. But remember the Huskers received commitments from 5’11”, 170-pounder Jamari Brown of Chicago, IL and 6’4”, 170-pound Maurice Purify II of Omaha, NE.
Trae Taylor gets his 5th Star
In other news, 247 Sports has reranked Trae Taylor, making him a 5-star. He is now ranked as the 8th best player nationally and No. 1 at quarterback in the 2027 class. Taylor has grown both physically and mentally since last year’s ‘Battle at the Bone Yard’. He’s shown increased arm strength and good mobility which allows him to find passing windows and open receivers. His accuracy has improved and he has shown mental toughness with the ability to shake off mistakes while still displaying leadership. Throughout the Elite Eleven competition he was recognized as being a fiery competitor. Seen as the alpha-dog and the man to beat, Taylor embraces the challenge of proving he can be a winner and a difference maker at Nebraska.
