Nebraska unveiled its 2026 alternate football uniform on Saturday, a striking black-and-metallic-red design inspired by the electric atmosphere of night games at Memorial Stadium. Built around the theme “Our Red Burns Brighter,” the uniform captures the energy and intensity of playing under the lights while celebrating the winning tradition the Huskers have forged inside one of college football’s most iconic venues.
A black base serves as the foundation, accented by metallic red details meant to evoke the glow of flames, fireworks, and the vibrant crimson that lights up Memorial Stadium on game nights. Those metallic red finishes specifically call to mind the stadium’s synchronized light shows, the fire tower flames in the end zone, and the red fireworks that burst above the North Stadium scoreboard.
The bottom of the jersey’s back panel features a custom perforated Block “N,” a subtle nod to the drone shows that have become a signature fourth-quarter moment. Inside the collar, “A Winning Tradition” lining pays tribute to the Huskers’ remarkable success under the lights; Nebraska has won more than 80% of its night games at Memorial Stadium.
The jersey pairs with a black helmet that marks the debut of the iconic Huskers script in metallic red. The helmet also carries an “A Winning Tradition” emblem on the back, echoing the jersey’s collar lining. A metallic red stripe running down the center incorporates the crop-row pattern, a tribute to Nebraska’s agricultural heritage.
The alternate uniform will make its on-field debut on Halloween when the Huskers host Washington in the second-annual Blackout game at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff time will be announced later this fall, but things are likely pointing to a night game. Darkness returns to Memorial Stadium this fall, but this time with a sinister red glow as well.
