Nebraska picked up their 20th and 21st commitments over the last two days. Will that be the final count? I don’t think so and with the roll the huskers have been on, I don’t see them being finished. Rhule and his staff have been on fire, picking up 11 commitments in the month of June.
Sunday it was Brennan Drummond – Safety, 6’0”, 180-pound 3-Star from Charlotte, North Carolina. Ranked 1,095 nationally, No. 118 at his position, and No.113th in the state of NC. He had offers from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke, and Nebraska.
This one surprised me. With commitments from fellow safeties Tory Pittman and Corey Hadley, I didn’t see Nebraska adding a third body at the position. That’s why I think Rob Aurich was as big a part of Drummond’s recruitment as Addison Willimas. I see Drummund playing linebacker or maybe a nickel safety. Drummond described himself as a downhill, physical strong safety who can play near the box, support the run, and rotate into coverage when needed. I’m going to guess he’s repeating what he heard from the Husker staff.
Drummond played out of position last season at cornerback, and while he showed coverage skills, it’s easy to see that isn’t his natural position. As far as On3 rankings are concerned, of the 20 Husker recruits, Drummond comes in at number 19.
Today the Huskers landed their fifth offensive line recruit in Barrett Kittrell. He becomes the 21st player to commit in the 2027 class. The 6’4”, 270-pound 3-Star IOL is from Ashland, Nebraska and is a legacy player.
Kitrell was heavily recruited and had offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, and Tennessee. He took multiple visits to both Nebraska and Iowa and visited Ohio State. Like many of Nebraska’s recruits, Kitrell is a multi-sport athlete excelling in track as well as football. Offensive line coach Geep Wade sees Kitrell possibly playing tackle if he continues to grow. The thought of having the opportunity to play all five of the line positions enhanced his view of Nebraska.
He joins offensive linemen Timi Aliu, Jordon Agbanoma, KD Jones, and Matt Erikson in the 2027 class. On3 ranks Kitrell as 1,007th nationally, No. 48 at his position and No, 8 overall in the state of Nebraska. His rankings place him at fifth amongst the five offensive linemen in the class.
For those keeping track, offensive line recruit Kyler Kuhn committed to Missouri. The Huskers will more than likely miss out on Albert Simien as well as it’s expected he will go to Texas A&M or LSU.
At this point, there are only two other players to watch for possible commitments, wide receiver Kalil Taylor and cornerback Kamauri Whitield. Once we get Taylor and Whitfield’s decisions, unless someone unexpected comes out of the woodwork or someone flips, the 2027 class will be between 21 and 23 players. We are now in the dead period, and it will be 76 days before a recruit can visit campus again. That means once the season starts. Nebraska is sure to have recruits visit for games. One, to reinforce their commitments, and two, to flip guys like Hudson. As of now, I like Nebraska’s chances with Hudson. Think Dawson Merritt and Cortez Mills.
