It was a big weekend for Nebraska football as they hosted a group of 2027 and 2028 recruits that have the potential to vault the Huskers into the top of the Big Ten. The new coaching staff is taking big swings towards top-tier talent. While many coaches try to ignore rankings, they are hard not to look at. The first step in landing recruits, getting them on campus. But the more visits they make the better. And finally, an official visit. If you get that far into the process, you have a good shot. Below I’ve listed the group that visited and where they currently stand with Nebraska. Three players visited on Thursday, nineteen over the weekend, with three of those being current 2027 commits. Five players who were scheduled to visit were unable to make it and will reschedule.

Thursday Visits

Dextavion Reese – S, 6’4”, 185lbs. It was Reese’s first visit to Nebraska, and he received an offer during his visit. It’s his first Power Four offer.

Marquis Evans – Edge, 6’5”, 235lbs. 3-Star. It was Evan’s first visit to Nebraska. He had already received an offer from the Huskers. He is currently being pursued by Auburn, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and Tennessee.

Prince Goldsby – Edge, 6’4”, 210lbs. It was Goldsby’s first visit since receiving an offer from Nebraska. He currently holds offers from Oklahoma. Oregon, Ohio State, and Alabama.

Weekend Visitors

Albert Simien – OG, 6’3, 275lbs. 5-Star. It was the fourth visit for Simien, and he’s seen enough to agree to an official visit.

Brandon Lockley – LB, 6’1”, 220lbs. 4-Star. It was Lockley’s second visit to Nebraska. He has scheduled an official visit for June. The Huskers are battling Oregon, Alabama, and Penn State for Lockley’s services.

Derrell Hines Jr. – WR, 6’1”, 170lbs. 4-Star. It was Hines’s first visit to Nebraska.

Jailen Hill – CB, 6’3”, 16lbs. 4-Star. It was Hill’s third visit to Nebraska. Hill was impressed enough that he plans on visiting again. Nebraska is up against USC and Notre Dame for Hill.

Jordan Agbanoma – OG, 6’4”, 290lbs.  4-Star. It was Agbanoma’s second visit to Nebraska. The Huskers will battle Texas A&M and Georgia for Agbanoma. He did, however, schedule an official visit for the first part of June.

Josh Evans – OG, 6’2” 308lbs. Class of 2028, not rated. It’s Evan’s first visit to Nebraska. He has yet to receive an offer from the Huskers, but has offers from Georgia, South Carolina, and Virgina Tech. He plans on visiting again in the fall for a game.

Kaden Howard – WR, 5’10”, 160lbs. 3-Star. It’s Howard’s first visit to Nebraska. He has set a commitment date for March 20, and the Huskers are the trending school.

Kei’Shjuan Telfair – WR, 6’0”, 160lbs. 4-Star.  It’s Telfair’s first visit to Nebraska.

Khalil Taylor – WR, 5’11”, 180lbs. 4-Star. It was Taylor’s second visit to Nebraska. After his visit to Lincoln, he has now set an official visit for June 12-14 weekend. He currently has official visits set with Indiana, Colorado, Georgia, Penn State, and Syracuse. Trae Taylor plays a big part in Khalil’s recruitment.

Kobe Rymes – LB, 6’1”, 225lbs. 3-Star. It’s Rymes’s fourth visit to Nebraska, but his first in meeting Rob Aurich.

Mekhi Williams – S, 6’2”, 167lbs. 4-Star. It’s William’s first visit to Nebraska. The Huskers will have to flip him, as he is committed to Florida State. He has scheduled official visits to Miami, Wisconsin, Maryland, and Florida State.

Quentin Burell – WR, 6’2”, 195lbs. 4-Star. It’s Burell’s first visit to Nebraska. He is a former high school teammate of 2026 commit Claude Mopuma and 2027 commit Trae Taylor.

Timi Aliu – OT, 6’4”, 295lbs. 4-Star, It’s Aliu’s third visit to Nebraska. He has four official visits scheduled with other schools. Aliu called his visit to Nebraska his ‘best visit yet’, perhaps vaulting Nebraska into serious consideration.

Waylon Wooten – DL, 6’1”, 315lbs. 3-Star. It’s Wooten’s second visit to Nebraska. Wooten’s visit went well and the Huskers may have moved up.

Kamauri Whitfield – CB, 5’10”, 185lbs.  3-Star. A former teammate of Nebraska freshman Danny Odem, this was Whitfield’s first visit to Nebraska. He opened up his commitment to Tennessee and is looking at Oregon, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, and Virgina Tech.

Jeremiah Figaro – Edge, 6’4”, 205lbs. He has offers from Texas Tech, Illinois, Virgina Tech, and Wisconsin.

Matt Erickson – OT, 6’7”, 283lbs. 3-Star. Committed to Nebraska.

Tory Pittman – S, 6’1”, 185lbs. 4-Star. Committed to Nebraska.

Trae Taylor – QB, 6’3”, 187lbs. 4-Star. Committed to Nebraska.

Planned Visits Unable to Make It

David Folorunsho – DL, 6’4”, 208lbs. 4-Star. Folorunsho had to cancel his visit. It was to be his first visit to Nebraska. He has rescheduled for March 10, bumping a visit to Florida.

Keysan Taylor – Edge, 6’4”, 225lbs. 3-Star. Taylor has made one visit to Nebraska but had to cancel due to a schedule conflict.

Tavares Harrington – CB, 6’3”, 180lbs. It was to be Harrington’s first visit to Nebraska. Unable to make it, he now plans on attending Nebraska’s spring game. He too is a former high school teammate of 2026 commit Claude Mopuma and 2027 commit Trae Taylor.

Will Slagle – C, 6’4”, 280lbs. 3-Star. This would have been Slagle’s third visit to Nebraska. However, he had to cancel due to personal matters. He has decommitted from Iowa State, making Penn State a real threat.

Zahmar Tookes – DL, 6’4” 235 lbs. 3-Star. Has yet to visit Nebraska as he had to cancel his visit due to travel issues. He plans on visiting March 12 if everything works out.

When looking at recruits and the position they play, you’ll notice the current staff is very clear as to where they will line up. When you see ‘DL’ now, it means an inside defensive lineman, a fireplug like Waylen Wooten, 6’1”, 315lbs. A defensive end will be called and ‘Edge’, and you’ll notice they are taller and lighter, say like Jeremiah Figaro 6’4” 205lbs. You’ll also notice there are safeties and cornerbacks. In the past Nebraska recruited defensive backs with the idea they could play anywhere. Not anymore. Geep Wade has also made it clear he will recruit centers, not IOL that can play center. The same hold true for guards and tackles. I don’t know about anybody else, but it’s what should have been done all along. Building a team takes more than just a bunch of good athletes, there is a mentality that goes with every position.

It all looks good on paper. Top talent visiting Lincoln. But there is a key piece still missing. Winning games. All the work that has been done on getting these guys here is great, but if the Huskers go out in 2026 and lay an egg, the hard work will be for naught. An 8-4 or 9-3 record will put them over the hump with several of these guys because it shows progress is being made. And while they may commit early, there will be second thoughts with a 6-6 or 7-5 record. They need to see progress, to know the promise of helping Nebraska get to the next level is real.
