No. 1 Nebraska continued its dominant season with a straight-sets road victory over Northwestern on Thursday night, sweeping the Wildcats in front of 5,329 fans at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Huskers improved their regular-season match win streak to 49 and their road/neutral-site streak to 24, the longest nationally since 2011 and the 11th-longest in NCAA history. The 18-0 start ranks as the program's seventh-best in the rally-scoring era. Nebraska hit .287 as a team while holding Northwestern to a .030 hitting percentage. The Wildcats managed just 46 points, tied for the fourth-fewest the Huskers have conceded in a match this year.
Andi Jackson paced Nebraska with 10 kills on .600 hitting, along with six blocks and four digs. It marked her eighth consecutive match hitting above .350 and her fifth straight at .400 or better. Harper Murray added nine kills, four digs, and three blocks, while Teraya Sigler contributed eight kills on .467 hitting, a team-high 12 digs, and three blocks. Kenna Cogill led the team with seven blocks and added three kills. Off the bench, Skyler Pierce and Gabby DiVita chipped in four and three kills, respectively.
Setter Bergen Reilly orchestrated the offense with 39 assists to go with seven digs, three blocks, and three kills. Laney Choboy matched Sigler’s team-best 12 digs. Overall, Nebraska dominated the statistical categories with a 42-21 edge in kills, 51-32 advantage in digs, and 13-8 margin in blocks. The Huskers also outscored Northwestern 9-0 on the service line, marking their third match of the season with at least nine aces.
Nebraska seized control early in the first set. After Murray served three straight points following a Jackson kill to build an 8-5 lead, the Huskers extended the lead to 13-9 on an ace and kill from Sigler plus a block from Murray and Cogill. Northwestern rallied with five consecutive points to grab a 14-13 edge, and the set was tied at 17 before Jackson’s kill ignited an 8-0 Nebraska run to close it out 25-17. Murray led the set with six kills, while the Huskers posted a 17-6 kill advantage and three aces to Northwestern’s none.
In the second set, the Huskers erased an early 4-1 deficit and took the lead for good on a Sigler kill. Reilly served back-to-back aces after a Cogill kill, and blocks from the Nebraska defense stretched the lead to 12-8. Later, Choboy served four straight points to cap a five-point run and push the margin to 20-11. Murray’s kill and Reilly’s ace sealed the 25-14 win. Cogill anchored the net with four block assists and a kill as Nebraska held a 5-3 block edge.
Nebraska completed the sweep in the third set, leading the rest of the way after an early 2-2 tie. Jackson’s kills sparked a 5-1 run, and Sigler’s ace made it 7-3. Consecutive block assists with Cogill serving built a 13-8 advantage, and a Jayden Robinson-Cogill block extended it to 20-12. Pierce added four kills and a block off the bench, while DiVita contributed three kills, including the match-clinching point in the 25-15 victory.
