North Dakota just opened their season and… yeah, they looked pretty dang good.
The No. 10 Fighting Hawks rolled Long Island University 42-21 on Thursday night. But it was even more lopsided than the final score shows. They led 42-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Jerry Kaminski only played the first half and still threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns on 17-of-21 passing. The offense piled up 320 yards in the first 30 minutes while the defense held LIU to just 36 total yards and forced a couple turnovers.
Complete domination early.
Then the second half happened. North Dakota scored zero points and let LIU put up 21. Classic “we already won, let’s get the backups in” type of thing, but still worth noting.
They play us in Week 3 up in Lincoln. Obviously we’re a Power conference team and should handle business, but this is a ranked FCS squad that can score in bunches when they’re rolling. Not exactly a cupcake opener for them, and they still put up 42 in a half.
Just something to keep an eye on as we get closer to September 19. GBR.
