Okay, so I blew it when I stated in an earlier article that Jailen Hill wouldn’t announce his commitment until July. Especially since Nebraska received a commitment from Hill Tuesday evening making him the second cornerback and the fourth defensive back taken in the 2027 cycle. He joins fellow CB Bryce Edwards along with safeties Tory Pittman and Corey Hadley.

The 6’3”, 160-pound 4-Star is ranked 336 nationally, No. 37 at his position and 29th in the state of California. Hill has a strong relationship with coach Addison Williams who was heavily involved in landing all four of the defensive backs. Of the 19 Husker commitments thus far, the four DB’s are ranked in the top seven of the class.

While Hill picked the Huskers, Big Ten rivals Indiana and Washington were also in his top three. Visiting Lincoln multiple times, Hill made his first visit to Nebraska last summer for the Hudl Futures Forum and competed in the ‘Battle at the Boneyard’. During the 7-on-7 event last year Hill displayed why he would be a top target during the 2027 cycle.

The Adidas sponsored event will be held again this weekend at Memorial Stadium and will once again feature top talent from across the nation. Playing high school football at St. John Boscoe in Bellflower, CA, Hill picked up where eh left off last summer, proving to be a potential lockdown corner. At Boscoe he logged 6 interceptions last season and 10 in his first three years of high school. Takeaways are a big part of defensive coordinator Rob Aurich’s defense. On Hill’s last visit before his official, Aurich and Williams shared their vision of Hill in their defense. He liked what he heard.

At 19 commitments, Hill becomes the 10th defensive player in the class. With new defensive coordinator Rob Aurich bringing in three new defensive position coaches and with his coaching linebackers, the Blackshirts will have a new look moving forward. Especially with switching from Tony White’s 3-3-5 to Aurich’s 4-2-5 defense.

With Hill standing 6’3” and Bryce Williams at 6’2”, the pair are big rangy corners compared to what we typically see. But it’s long been thought Nebraska’s personnel was better suited for the 4-2-5 scheme, and Aurich continues to push in that direction. Jailen Hill becomes yet another piece in Aurich’s puzzle.

GO BIG RED!! SIMPLE, FAST, VIOLENT!!
